Spotlight Light Karaoke Reviews: Pros, Cons, & Website Analysis

For starters, the parking lot here is so tight. (EDIT: ALSO the restrooms here will make you claustrophobic as hell! The door opens inward and you have to squeeze yourself against the damn wall to open it. Toilet is ALL ON THE WALL so you have to squat and pee sideways. Door next to the toilet, I did hit my head on the doorknob...DISGUSTING. CRAZY. The design for those 4x4 foot bathrooms is such a poor choice. I'm a small person, a normal sized adult could not use these restrooms!!!)

I visited Fat Crab Karaoke with a friend around 9:50 PM. After checking our bags at the door, we joined some friends, ordered drinks, and submitted a song request at approximately 10:00 PM.

Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. While the venue was not particularly crowded, the same group of singers seemed to be called up repeatedly throughout the night. Meanwhile, many of us who had submitted songs early on continued waiting without being given an opportunity to perform. After more than two hours, I still had not been called to sing.

Around midnight, the DJ announced that some names remained in the queue even though those guests had ALREADY LEFT and asked anyone who had not yet sung to come to the booth. I got up to talk to the black DJ thinking this is my chance I've been smiling and waiting patiently. Naturally, I assumed this meant the rotation would begin moving more fairly now that the people's names who were being called are GONE for the night. However, the same individuals who kept being called back, to back, to back continued to be called up, and by 12AM, I can wait longer maybe I'm next, then 12:30 AM, I had still not been given a turn. At that point, I decided to leave rather than continue waiting until 1:00 AM for the possibility of singing one single song.

It also seemed as though more popular or crowd-pleasing songs were being prioritized over maintaining a fair rotation. Whether someone wants to sing a serious ballad, a favorite classic, or simply a fun song with friends, every guest should have an equal opportunity to participate!!! Karaoke is most enjoyable when everyone gets a chance to be part of the experience.

Another issue was the sound. While performers were singing in our room, music and vocals from other karaoke rooms could be heard at the same time. The overlapping audio often competed with the performance in front of us, making it difficult to fully enjoy the songs being sung.

The drinks were also quite expensive for the overall experience provided. 2 shots cost me 20 dollars...damn, I could have went to the liquor store!

I came expecting a fun and inclusive karaoke night where everyone would have an opportunity to participate. Instead, I spent over two and a half hours, but lets just say three hours, waiting without ever getting a turn to sing. While others may have had a great time, I ultimately left feeling overlooked and disappointed.
